Moving Tips
Make your move go as smoothly as possible by following these suggestions.
2 months before- Reserve a rental truck or make arrangements with a moving company.
- Complete a Change of Address form at the post office.
- Get referrals from your doctor and dentist, along with your medical records. Take an inventory of your belongings and record electronic equipment serial numbers.
- Inform your utility providers about your move, and set up utilities at your new address.
- Update all your newspaper and magazine subscriptions.
- Have your appliances serviced for moving, and clean all rugs and have them wrapped.
- Clean out and defrost your freezer and refrigerator.
- Check with your insurance agent to make sure you'll be covered during your move.
- Double check your closets, drawers, shelves, attic and garage to make sure they're empty.
- Carry important documents and valuable jewelry yourself, or use registered mail.
- Make sure you have plenty of boxes, tape, bubble wrap and labeling stickers on hand.
